Now traders from three markets as well as operators of a hotel and a shopping mall send their organic waste to the waste composting centre set up through the council's Local Action 21 (LA 21) initiative, next to the Bagan Ajam market, to be converted into fertilisers, said Rozali.
“If more traders do the same, there will be less waste in garbage bins and fewer rats,” he added.
On the island, the Penang Municipal Council said it was almost impossible to wipe out the rats although its teams carry out extermination exercises every two months.
