This is a big jump from the 4,305 rats caught last year. Under a special rodent campaign last year, the public was given RM1 for every rat dead or alive surrendered to MPSP. A total of 2,392 rats were caught under the campaign.
MPSP secretary Rozali Mohamud said there was better planned operations after the setting up of the four-member unit.
“Previously, it was based on complaints. Now, we have scheduled operations twice a fortnight in markets which have high rat infestation,” he said.
He said of the 27 markets in Seberang Prai, 15 of them were found to have a high population of rats.
